Catted and catless down pipes
There are many aftermarket modifications that car enthusiasts can make to their vehicle, and choosing where to start can be a challenge.
If you are trying to narrow down your options, we recommend starting with your exhaust system. Afterall, it is not just what is under the hood that will put you ahead of the rest. Your exhaust system is critical for your vehicle's overall performance. By installing down pipes, you can effectively upgrade your vehicle, delivering significant long-term benefits.
So why make the investment? Well, for starters, your system will drastically reduce its emissions and create a more efficient operation, with an effortless flow of associated gases. A fortunate side effect is that this will also make your car sound a lot better, with far more grunt.
First up, you will notice an immediate improvement in how your car drives, with a boost of up to 40HP just by installing aftermarket parts. However, it is essential to understand that quality down pipes are far different to stock alternatives – for example, they are typically manufactured by inserting a steel rod into the tubing. This process is called mandrel bending, creating the perfect curve without any imperfections. These are also larger in diameter, so they will release more gases from your engine to enhance performance.
It does not matter if you are a new car enthusiast or a seasoned professional racer – installing aftermarket components is essential to enhance your turbocharger. These have been engineered to withstand high temperatures, and will help boost your turbo to higher pressure and manage the increased gas output.
The difference between catted and catless
A catted solution includes a catalytic converter designed to filter the toxic components out of your exhaust gases for cleaner emissions. These are mandatory in street vehicles. Our range for track and race cars will give you all the benefits associated with these parts, along with cleaner emissions.
Catted alternatives for racing vehicles are different to stock components in street vehicles. They have wider piping and less restrictive catalytic conversion, so you can control your emissions without impacting your turbocharger.
Catless piping will deliver slightly better boosts (around 5HP), but you will not be filtering or managing your emissions.
Stock piping is not going to provide the level of airflow your turbocharger needs. Using down pipes that have been specifically engineered to work in tandem with your turbo will provide that airflow, but high pressure can cause these to become damaged over time.
Dump pipes are the ideal solution as they will reduce lag and make the turbo spin longer to boost performance. This also prevents unnecessary pressure and damage to your exhaust system. Used in combination with quality down pipes, you will have the optimal airflow, the best performance and reduced risk of damaging your system.
Universal items are not application specific and may or may not suit your vehicle. Some items may be suitable but are listed as universal (ie wheel nuts, oil filters) and In some circumstances a product may not fit automatically but can still be used with some modification (ie. catch can/gauge pod etc.). Be sure to check if the product is right for you or ask us for assistance before purchasing. Filter universal products by selecting “Show Universal Products” from the filter products menu.
