Why do our spacers look different?
Made from the highest grade of FR4 Garolite composite our spacers were created using a version 1-4 WRX inlet manifold, this allowed us to create the best port flow possible and increase the VME (speed) of the rushing air. Our competitors simply send inlet manifold gaskets to China and duplicate it without any other thought. Using theirs won’t allow you to align the spacer to get the matching port required for high HP builds.
As we all know the boxer engine runs hot, unfortunately the inlet manifold sits on this hot engine and absorbs a large portion of this heat, by minimizing this heat increases the air density which allows more fuel and stronger combustion. Ryder Racing 4mm and 8mm thermal spacers do exactly that while increasing the ram speed on the manifold due to the additional lift.
Phenolic spacers have been used for years by many other specialized automotive companies including the Formula 1, but this is very new technology to the Subaru world. Ryder Racing Phenolic Spacers reduce the temperature in the manifold where you are able to actually touch the manifold without burns, this is evidence to the amount of heat soak the inlet manifold is subject to in OEM applications.
As a rule of thumb, for every 5oC reduction in temperature generally increases power by 1%. The cooler and denser the intake air charge is the engine requires extra fuel to maintain the correct stoichiometric ratio, this is what creates the horsepower in short additional air and fuel mixture.
