- Fuel/Oil/Coolant System
Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulators
Fuel pressure regulators oversee your petrol or diesel against your vehicle’s air boost, and allows the fuel injector to keep the right balance between the boost and the petrol. It has a diaphragm to control the bypass valve, which is known as the ball seat, and has the ability to adjust when the diaphragm opens using preload on the system.
Remember that the size of your fuel lines is also relevant. The smaller the line, the larger drop in pressure you'll have.
How Does an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator Work?
This component works by bleeding off a portion of the flow to the injectors from the pump in order to control the pressure of your vehicle’s petrol or diesel. Fuel is then pumped from the tank to the fuel rail. The pump is normally mounted after the rail to ensure this takes priority in flow.
These regulators help to maintain the pressure in the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) System. If the system needs more pressure, the regulator allows more volume to travel to the engine. This is important as that is how your petrol or diesel gets to the injectors.
The regulator’s job is to maintain a consistent level of pressure across the injector by regulating how much is returned to the tank in order to maintain the desired pressure.
The Benefits of Using these Parts
Using the best adjustable fuel regulator possible is handy as it allows you to swap in different injectors, then adjust them to suit your lean or rich mixture needs.
To find the best adjustable regulator, you need to know what the inlet pressure going into it is going to be, what pressure this is to be set at (the required downstream pressure), and how much of a flow rate is required downstream. The important thing to note is that this needs to be consistent ACROSS the injector, and not just at the tip, as some believe.
Can This Increase My Horsepower?
Yes – but before we get into how, let’s start by looking at the basics. A regulator supports the maintenance of the EFI System. If the system needs an increase in pressure, this component allows more petrol to move to the engine.
This is important to note, since that’s how petrol gets to the injectors. With this in mind, it makes sense then that changing the pressure on an EFI System is an effective method of affecting engine performance and making more power. If power is your thing, check out our range of fuel cells today.
What’s the Ideal PSI?
Average pressure can be anywhere from 45 psi to 55 psi. Engines with fuel injection will normally use electric pumps to supply the higher amount demanded by the system. With port injection, the required amount ranges from 45 psi to 66 psi.

Universal items are not application specific and may or may not suit your vehicle. Some items may be suitable but are listed as universal (ie wheel nuts, oil filters) and In some circumstances a product may not fit automatically but can still be used with some modification (ie. catch can/gauge pod etc.). Be sure to check if the product is right for you or ask us for assistance before purchasing. Filter universal products by selecting “Show Universal Products” from the filter products menu.
