How Do Performance Clutches Work?
Your clutch is located between the engine’s flywheel and transmission shaft. When it engages, the pressure plate will apply pressure to hold the friction disc in place between the plate and the flywheel, while the flywheel maintains inertia. Meanwhile, the release bearings work to reduce wear and absorb any force, therefore prolonging the lifespan of your engine.
When all these parts work together, it allows your drivetrain to kick in as the flywheel and friction disc provide power to your wheels. This allows you to gradually apply engine power when you start your vehicle, transferring torque from the engine to your transmission or gearbox. It also adjusts power when changing gears to avoid the gears from abruptly crunching.
