Fixes the OEM Boost Leak | Big Aftermarket Turbo Ready
Upgrade your VB WRX with the OVERTAKE Aluminium Big Turbo Inlet and eliminate one of the factory system’s biggest performance limitations. Designed specifically for 2022+ Subaru WRX models running larger aftermarket turbochargers, this high-strength aluminium inlet delivers increased airflow, lower intake temperatures, and faster boost response.
If you are running an upgraded turbocharger on your FA24 platform, this is the ideal solution. While our standard 2022+ WRX Aluminium Turbo Inlet is engineered around the factory 49.5mm inlet diameter, the Big Turbo version increases the turbo flange opening to 54.5mm to properly support larger units such as the Boost Lab BL54XR and similar aftermarket turbos.
The Factory Inlet Is Aluminium — So What’s Different?
Modern vehicles are required to prevent fuel vapours from escaping the fuel system. Instead, vapours are routed back into the engine to be burned. At idle and under vacuum conditions, a purge solenoid opens and draws vapours directly into the intake manifold. Under light boost conditions of 0–4 psi, manifold pressure becomes too high, so vapours are instead routed into the turbo inlet, where the pressure drop created by airflow provides the necessary suction.
The issue with the factory Subaru design is that the EVAP pressure sensor is located far from the turbo inlet, connected by a long hose. This results in weak sensor readings. Subaru addressed this by drilling a 4mm hole into the turbo compressor housing, feeding a venturi-style ejector. This creates an intentional boost leak that artificially increases airflow through the inlet, allowing the sensor to detect the expected pressure drop.
At wide open throttle, the purge solenoid closes to trap vapours in the tank, but the venturi continues leaking boost into the inlet. This forces the turbocharger to work harder to maintain target boost, increasing charge air temperatures, reducing intercooler efficiency, and limiting top-end airflow. To prevent the venturi from freezing, Subaru routes engine coolant beneath the inlet, which raises inlet temperatures to approximately 200 degrees Fahrenheit and further heats the incoming air.
The OVERTAKE Turbo Inlet eliminates this issue entirely by using the engine’s vacuum pump as a controlled and direct vacuum source, positioned closer to the EVAP sensor. An inline restrictor pill ensures the vacuum level remains within specification, preserving proper fuel vapour management without relying on a built-in boost leak. With the ejector eliminated, the coolant loop through the inlet can also be bypassed, allowing cooler intake air to reach the turbocharger.
Additionally, the factory turbo inlet contains internal pockets designed to dampen induction noise and promote heat retention. These pockets disrupt airflow and reduce efficiency. The OVERTAKE inlet removes these restrictions entirely, creating a smooth, uninterrupted airflow path that increases intake air velocity and overall turbo efficiency.
